BoE’s Brazier says investment risks are hidden in “plain sight”

Investors are ignoring “moonwalking bears” and are taking on risks for less compensation

Investors appear to be willing to take the same risks for less compensation, one of the Bank of England’s executive directors has said. Appetite for risk seems to have increased amid the reach for yield.

Speaking today (April 26), Alex Brazier warned corporate debt markets contain “moonwalking bears”, or risks to financial stability that are hiding in “plain sight”. The phrase refers to a video in which people focus on a basketball game – and fail to notice the bear in the background.
