ECB says Latvia’s authorities have effectively removed Rimšēvičs from office

The European Central Bank has asked the European Court of Justice to rule on the legality of “security measures” taken by Latvia’s authorities that effectively prevent its serving governor from carrying out his role.

Bank of Latvia governor Ilmārs Rimšēvičs has been barred from conducting official business at the central bank or using its computer system. The moves were taken by the central bank after Latvia’s anti-corruption investigation authority, KNAB, formally prohibited Rimšēvičs from
