South African Reserve Bank safe from ownership restructuring for now

South Africa’s ruling party has withdrawn its proposal to nationalise the nation’s central bank.

“The African National Congress in parliament has withdrawn its motion ‘on full public ownership on the South African Reserve Bank in line with international practice’,” the party said in a statement issued today (March 6).
