Prime Minister says governor may be target of smear, but banker widens accusations

Latvia’s central bank governor Ilmārs Rimšēvičs has said the accusations of bribery for which he was arrested on February 17 and detained for 48 hours were “lies” spread by the owner of a commercial bank.

The bank owner in question, Grigory Guselnikov, has widened his accusations, saying that a close associate of the central bank governor demanded that his bank take part in money-laundering.
