Denmark is ‘not yet’ in a housing bubble – Rohde
Governor says current housing taxes are “destabilising”, and have had to be countered with macro-prudential policy
National Bank of Denmark governor Lars Rohde said on April 20 the country is “not yet in a housing bubble”, but the situation “warrants vigilance”.
Speaking at an event organised by Danske Bank in New York, Rohde said the government’s regime of housing taxation was “destabilising”. The central bank has acted against this, using macro-prudential measures, such as higher downpayments for people looking to buy houses in particularly ‘hot’ markets, such as Copenhagen.
