Malaysian government opens case on historic forex losses
Government to investigate losses from profit-driven reserves policy
The Malaysian government has launched a "special task force" to investigate foreign exchange losses incurred by Bank Negara Malaysia in the early 1990s, during a period when the central bank made speculative bets using its reserves.
Bank Negara said in a statement today (February 16) that it would give the task force its "full co-operation", while adding the losses were incurred "more than 25 years ago".
