Xi says China is open for business as US turns away
China to become bigger player in global markets as the US looks to be turning inwards, says President Xi
China's president, Xi Jinping, speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on January 17, cast his nation as the new leading world power.
Appearing for the first time, Xi threw down the gauntlet, stating that China planned to fill the trade gap left by Europe and the US as political and economic uncertainty tightens its grip.
"In a world marked by great uncertainty and volatility, the world is looking to China," WEF founder and chairman Klaus Schwab said before welcoming Xi to the stage.
