Riksbank considering e-krona issuance – Skingsley
Digital currency issuance raises many design challenges, deputy says
The Swedish central bank, the Sveriges Riksbank, is investigating the possibility of issuing some form of digital currency or "e-krona" as it looks to fill a void left by the decline of cash.
Low and falling cash use in Sweden means a central bank digital currency is more of a "burning issue" than for most, Riksbank deputy governor Cecilia Skingsley said today (November 16).
Cash is a form of central bank money that is accessible to all members of the population – in contrast to bank deposits
