EU places sanctions on new Syrian central bank governor

Duraid Durgham placed under asset freeze and travel ban due to “support for Syrian regime”

The European Union (EU) has placed the governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Duraid Durgham, under personal sanctions, it announced yesterday (November 14).

Durgham was "responsible for providing economic and financial support to the Syrian regime through his functions as the governor of the Central Bank of Syria", the EU said. A meeting of EU foreign ministers on October 17 agreed to impose intensified sanctions on senior Syrian officials following the government's renewed attacks on the rebel
