Italian banks feel more pressure from EBA stress-test results
Private sector rescue bid may give respite to most stressed bank
Italian banks came under renewed pressure after the European Banking Authority (EBA) published the results of its stress tests of Europe's 51 largest banks late on July 29. Some relief came in the shape of a proposed private sector recapitalisation for Italy's most stressed bank, Monte Paschi dei Siena (MPS).
Trading in shares in Italian bank UniCredit was briefly suspended today (August 1), after they posted a 7.9% fall in early European dealing. It was later reinstated.
