ECB ‘actively considering’ whether to scrap €500 note, Cœuré says
Note appears to be used widely in facilitating crime
The European Central Bank (ECB) is "actively considering" whether to scrap its highest denomination banknote, says executive board member Benoît Cœuré.
In an interview with French newspaper Le Parisien, translated and published by the ECB today (February 11), Cœuré says he finds arguments in favour of keeping the €500 note "less and less convincing".
