Banks need to abandon the attitude to liquidity they held before the financial crisis, Benoît Cœuré said in Davos, Switzerland on January 22. "We don't want to have as much liquidity as we had before the crisis," he said.

There was a "temptation" to contrast the "current state of affairs" in banking liquidity with the pre-crisis situation, said Cœuré, a European Central Bank executive board member. But, Cœuré argued, that was "not the right reference point".
