Ukrainian governor: banking system 'largely cleaned up'
Central bank must enhance creditors’ rights to re-start lending, Gontareva says
Ukraine's banking system was "largely cleaned up" in 2015, the country's central bank governor said on January 13. Valeria Gontareva told the managers of Ukraine's 40 biggest banks that as a result she did not foresee major payments from the central bank's deposit guarantee fund.
"We need to restart the banking system," Gontareva said. The central bank would have to "enhance the protection of creditors' rights to encourage the resumption of lending", she added.
