Europe needs ‘consistent’ policy on solvency issues, Lautenschläger argues
Current policy of giving national authorities competence ‘not ideal’, SSM vice-chair says
Europe needs a "consistent" policy on who has competence for solvency issues, the vice-chair of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) said in a speech in Frankfurt today (January 13).
In many countries covered by the SSM, national regulators are the competent authorities for specific solvency issues "not expressly referred to in European legislation", Sabine Lautenschläger said. The question, according to Lautenschläger, is whether the ECB can "directly exercise such competences".
