Central Bank of Bolivia issues counterfeit warning ahead of festival
Reproductions of bolivar must be 50% smaller or larger
If Bolivians are to issue replica banknotes then they must be at least double or half the size of legal tender or they will be seized, the central bank warned on January 6, ahead of a major public festival.
The country's penal code prohibits the printing and reproduction of the bolivar. There are, however, exemptions, said the central bank in a statement. The "partial or total" reproduction of "images" of the currency are permitted where it is 50% larger or smaller than the legal tender
