“How was the Central Bank of Somalia? Marvellous,” says a central banking expert recently returned from an NGO advisory mission in Mogadishu. He reflects a little. “No, let’s say something more intelligent than that. It was impressive to see the decisiveness and dedication with which the management and staff are re-establishing the central bank after 25 years of chaos. Better than that – you can be dedicated and still do some really stupid stuff. But these guys know what they are doing.”
