BoE’s Shafik unconvinced regulation is main factor driving volatile liquidity

Regulation ‘only part of the story’, deputy governor says

Regulation is only one factor behind recent bouts of extreme volatility in market liquidity, Bank of England (BoE) deputy governor for markets and banking Minouche Shafik said today (October 27).

In remarks delivered at the London Business School, Shafik said regulation is "only part of the story" behind shocks to liquidity such as the "flash rally" in US Treasuries in October 2014. Shafik also pointed to improved awareness of risks since the 2008 crisis, the evolution of the industry of market
