Central bank governor urges Fijians to stop ironing polymer notes
Reserve Bank of Fiji governor Barry Whiteside has urged residents not to spruce up their polymer banknotes with irons, encouraging them to instead fold their money more gently to help "save costs for the nation".
The central bank has received a growing number of damaged F$5 polymer notes, most of them "torn and burnt", the central bank said today (October 5) in a statement, urging Fijians to take better care of the legal tender.
Whiteside said polymer notes "react poorly to extreme heat"
