National Bank of Denmark warns fierce competition may damage lending standards

Recommends banks build buffers to protect themselves

Fierce competition could be putting pressure on banks to cut the quality of their lending standards, the National Bank of Denmark warned in its latest financial stability report, published today (June 22).

"Competition may intensify further in the near future, and it is important that the banks do not lower their credit standards," the central bank said. It noted that all of Denmark's six systemic banking groups have capital above minimum requirements, but said they should make sure they keep
