Japan shows signs of inflation rebound

Research suggests inflation has moved to a higher trend

Japan's inflation has returned to positive figures after hitting zero in February, data published today (May 1) by Statistics Japan has shown.

Consumer prices rose 0.2% in the year to March, once the effects of Japan's consumption tax hike in April 2014 are stripped out.

Underlying data suggests the effects of last year's oil price collapse may be starting to pass through. The "other fuel and light" category returned to positive figures in March, having fallen by 8.1% the previous month. Year-on
