New Australian banknotes to feature 'embossed bumps'
Feature will make it easier to feel the difference between denominations, RBA says
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) will become the second central bank after the Bank of Canada to add "embossed bumps" to its polymer banknotes, a tactile feature meant to help people with visual impairments feel the difference between denominations.
The decision was preceded by "extensive research and consultation" with 23 other central banks, according to an article published today in the RBA's quarterly bulletin.
