Bonnici disappointed by TLTRO take-up in Malta
Weak demand in December underwhelmed observers
The participation of Maltese banks in the targeted, longer-term refinancing operations (TLTROs) offered by the European Central Bank (ECB) has been "somewhat disappointing", according to the governor of the Central Bank of Malta.
Josef Bonnici noted the take-up fell "way short of the limits available", mirroring the pattern elsewhere in Europe, with the region's banks utilising only €212.4 billion of the €400 billion on the table in the ECB's September and December operations.
