RBA’s Richards outlines fast settlement service at Chicago symposium

Central bank official talks through ‘the path to innovation’ with payments

Australia's forthcoming fast settlement service (FSS) will "be able to deal with high transactions-per-second throughput and very short response times", according to the central bank's head of payments policy, Tony Richards.

Speaking at the Chicago Payments Symposium, held September 25–26, Richards discussed the Reserve Bank of Australia's involvement in the "new payments platform" being developed in the country.

He singled out the FSS, which is being designed to facilitate the settlement of
