BoE paper: ‘No evidence' QE operated via bank-lending channel in UK
Research tests whether QE boosted bank lending, in addition to other effects
There is no evidence to suggest that quantitative easing (QE) in the UK operated via a traditional bank-lending channel (BLC), according to a Bank of England (BoE) working paper published today.
QE and the bank lending channel in the United Kingdom, by Nick Butt, Rohan Churm, Michael McMahon, Arpad Morotz, and Jochen Schanz, tests whether QE provided a boost to UK bank lending, in addition to the effects on asset prices, demand and inflation that are "focused on in most other studies".
