Koji Ishida says summer bonuses will support private consumption in short-term
The Bank of Japan's Koji Ishida says he will "pay close attention" to changes in private consumption in the coming months, to see whether it recovers from the decline in demand that followed the 3% consumption tax hike in April.
Ishida, a member of the BoJ's policy board, told a group of business leaders in Shimonoseki that private consumption "has been driving Japan's recovery so far", but suggested it could suffer in the wake of falling demand.
