Bank of Albania toughens checks on employees as governor clings on
Governor Fullani contradicts central bank statement that his dismissal was discussed
The Bank of Albania is bringing in stringent new background checks on all employees, in particular those dealing with cash, following the theft last month of $6.7 million worth of local currency by a central bank employee, which has apparently led to the bank's supervisory board considering firing the governor.
The central bank's embattled governor, Ardian Fullani, has hit back at suggestions he should step down in the wake of the theft, contradicting a press statement from the central bank that
