Bangladesh Bank governor hails SME finance initiative
Atiur Rahman says SME lending has grown thanks to central bank initiative
Small and medium-sized enterprise financing initiatives employed by the Bangladesh Bank (BB) have led to an increase in lending to the sector of 59% since 2010, governor Atiur Rahman said in a speech in Dhaka on Wednesday.
One of the initiatives he flagged up was the provision of low-cost funds from the central bank's refinance windows, "to refinance banks and non-bank finance institutions against financing to MSMEs [micro, small and medium-sized enterprises] at only bank rate".
