Buba president reiterates concerns over ‘potential conflicts of interest’
The Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) should be split from the European Central Bank and established as a separate institution, according to Deutsche Bundesbank president Jens Weidmann, who reiterated his concerns about the conflict of interest between monetary policy and bank supervision yesterday.
Weidmann appeared alongside Klaas Knot, president of the Netherlands Bank, at the Duitsland Instituut in Amsterdam, to discuss the challenges facing the Economic and Monetary Union in Europe.
