MAS' Menon warns Myanmar over ‘big bang' liberalisation

Ravi Menon, managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), told an audience in Myanmar today that the country's financial liberalisation will be vital to its economic development – but that it should happen at a cautious pace and carefully sequenced.

At a seminar on financial sector liberalisation in the Myanmar capital of Naypyidaw, Menon noted that large segments of the country's economy and population do not have access to affordable funding. "Foreign financial institutions"
