Chilean central bank puts rate cuts on pause

The Central Bank of Chile board voted unanimously to "pause" their easing cycle and assess the impact of its two consecutive interest rate cuts before sanctioning another, according to minutes from its December meeting, released earlier this week.

The board voted to hold the benchmark interest rate at 4.5% in December, after cutting it by 25 basis points in both October and November. The latest minutes suggest the board was uneasy about the message a third consecutive cut would convey, with one
