BoJ’s Sato says central bank is ‘breaking away’ from incremental policy

Takehiro Sato, a member of the Bank of Japan's policy board member, today said the central bank is "breaking away from the incremental approach" of conducting monetary policy with its quantitative and qualitative easing (QQE) programme.

He described the radical easing plan as an attempt to "shift people's expectations" through an "initial bold move" in monetary policy. From then on, he said, the plan was to adopt a "wait-and-see" approach.

While he acknowledged the central bank was examining
