ECB gives Nouy the nod for SSM chair, but Mersch is no 'shoo-in' for deputy

The ECB today nominated Danièle Nouy to head up the single supervisory mechanism (SSM) ahead of a confirmation hearing at the Economic and Monetary Affairs (Econ) Committee a week today. But the central bank is understood to be as yet undecided over which of its executive directors should be the new body's vice-chairman.

ECB president, Mario Draghi, today sent a five-page response to questions posed by Sharon Bowles MEP, chair of the Econ Committee – mandated to scrutinise the central bank –
