Shirai says Bank of Japan’s communication has ‘room for improvement’

Sayuri Shirai, a member of the Bank of Japan's (BoJ) policy board, today criticised the Bank of Japan's communication in its Outlook for Economic Activity and Prices, which she objected to at a recent monetary policy meeting.

"I personally believe that there is still room for improvement in terms of communication strategies," Shirai told a meeting of business leaders in Asahikawa. She said the Outlook report could mislead consumers about the effects of a consumption tax hike on inflation, and
