RBI governor finds ‘a lot of scope for improvement’ in IMF advice

The governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Duvvuri Subbarao has criticised the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) approach to giving advice and policy recommendations, and understanding complex global linkages.

In an speech delivered at an IMF conference and published in the RBI's bulletin yesterday, Subbarao said the IMF should be more "even-handed" when giving policy advice. He cited the example of the recent disagreement over the effects of quantitative easing between advanced economies
