Asic to consult on trade repositories in first quarter 2013

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (Asic) intends to consult with the financial industry on its plans for an over-the-counter derivatives trade repository at the end of the first quarter of 2013 - but doesn't plan to build its own repository at this stage.

Australia follows other jurisdictions in Asia-Pacific that intend to implement trade repositories during 2013. The effort follows an agreement by the Group of 20 nations in September 2009 for all OTC derivatives to be
