King ‘baffled’ by suggestion of internal investigation

Mervyn King, governor of the Bank of England, has said he was "baffled" by the recommendation from the Treasury Select Committee that the central bank should review its own performance during the financial crisis.

In a wide-ranging interview published in the Times newspaper, the governor said if there was a case of an inquiry, "it has to be an inquiry into everything, not just the Bank of England but what ministers did, what Treasury officials did, what bankers did and what everyone else was
