World Gold Council predicts ‘record year’ for central bank gold purchases
The World Gold Council (WGC) said in its latest gold investment statistics commentary that the results from the third and fourth quarters of 2011 were likely to push central bank gold purchases to new highs.
"Central banks, which have been predominantly net purchasers of gold since Q2 2009, increased their activity during 2011," said the WGC. "Central bank net-buying is poised to have a record year, and many of these purchases happened during Q3 and Q4."
