UK banking reforms argument rumbles on

On Wednesday, the argument surrounding the possible introduction of a ring-fence around British banks' retail operations reached new heights.

Business secretary Vince Cable said the banking reforms will go ahead despite a row over the speed of the changes.

On Monday, John Cridland, director-general of the Confederation of British Industry, a business lobby group, said the government would be "barking mad" to go ahead with the idea. He said the plans would threaten the UK's fragile economic
