Risky lending driven by largest banks: ECB paper

A European Central Bank paper, published on June 20, shows that banks that are more active at originating asset-backed securities are also more aggressive on their loan-pricing practices.

Alper Kara, David Marqués-Ibáñez and Steven Ongena, the paper's authors, use evidence from pricing behaviour in the syndicated loan market to investigate the effects of securitisation activity on banks' lending standards. The authors note that since the financial crisis securitisation has been under scrutiny
