EBA reveals benchmark for EU stress tests

Banks participating in the 2011 EU-wide stress test will be assessed against a core Tier I capital ratio equal to 5% of risk-weighted assets, the European Banking Authority (EBA) revealed on Friday.

The EBA said the 5% core Tier I capital benchmark was not a legal minimum requirement, but that it expects any bank failing to meet the benchmark, or showing specific weaknesses in the stress test, to agree and execute appropriate remedial measures with their relevant supervisory authority.
