Israel’s Fischer picks inaugural members of monetary committee

Stanley Fischer, the governor of the Bank of Israel, on Sunday appointed Barry Topf as his senior adviser on monetary policy issues. Fischer also recommended that the government approve the appointment of Karnit Flug as deputy governor of the Bank of Israel, in place of Zvi Eckstein, who has decided to return to academia in July after five years in the role.

Both Topf and Flug will become members of Israel's new Monetary Policy Committee, which will have power over setting interest rates once it
