Map of interbank market first step in project to forecast crises

A €1.8m European Union (EU)-funded project to better forecast financial stability is looking to map the European interbank market in order to better determine the tipping points at which banking crises have systemic implications.

The Forecasting Financial Crises Project, supported by a €1.8m ($2.4m) grant from the EU, will see economists, computer scientists and physicists develop a system to enable policymakers to better forecast and mitigate systemic risk. Giulia Iori, an economics professor
