RBA's Lowe: households optimistic over future

Philip Lowe, an assistant governor at the Reserve Bank of Australia, on Wednesday said households remained optimistic over the future of the economy despite restrained spending and borrowing.

"Over the past year or so, we have had the rather unusual situation in which households, when surveyed, report that they are quite optimistic about the future, yet at the same time, they are quite restrained in both their spending and borrowing," Lowe said.

Lowe said the household savings rate in Australia
