Gjedrem on the Norges Bank’s history

Svein Gjedrem, the governor of the Norges Bank, on Wednesday spoke about the central bank's changing role from adviser to the Norwegian government to an institution with responsibility over an active monetary policy instrument.

Gjedrem said the central bank was established in 1816 and as Norway's first bank, under the control of the Storting, the Norwegian parliament. Gjedrem said over time the Norges Bank became a more modern institution when it became a bank for the banks and gained
