Afghan governor insists country’s biggest bank is solvent

Abdul Qadeer Fitrat, the governor of the Bank of Afghanistan, on Wednesday stressed that Kabul Bank, the country's biggest lender, was not on the brink of insolvency, after its chairman and chief executive resigned amid speculation of corruption.

Fitrat said Sherkhan Farnood, Kabul Bank's chairman, and Khalilullah Frozi, its chief executive, had resigned because of reforms instated by the central bank two months ago, under which shareholders cannot hold senior positions in management.
