Cracks emerge over ECB’s bond purchases

Fault lines emerged across Europe on Tuesday, as Axel Weber, the president of the Bundesbank and a member of the European Central Bank's (ECB) governing council, broke ranks to oppose the central bank's decision to step into the secondary market.

"The purchase of government bonds poses significant stability risks and that's why I'm critical towards this part of the ECB council's decision, even in this extraordinary situation," he said, in remarks confirmed by the Bundesbank. He added that it
