ECB’s Tumpel-Gugerell: rushing euro adoption no fix

The premature adoption of the euro, not accompanied by a sufficient degree of sustainable convergence, is certainly not a solution to overcome the impact of the crisis, said Gertrude Tumpel-Gugerell, an executive board member of the European Central Bank.

Tumpel-Gugerell said only a credible euro adoption strategy helped stabilise economies. She said achieving sustainable convergence could be seen as an important anchor and an opportunity for Central and Eastern European countries to adopt
