Fire alarm halts ECB press conference

The ECB's monthly news conference in its Eurotower headquarters on Thursday 1 Aprilwas interrupted temporarily by a fire alarm.

Just after 3:00 pm (1300 GMT), elevators in the ECB building in the centre of Frankfurt were out of order and the microphones used by ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet and his deputy Lucas Papademos during the question-and-answer session did not function for several minutes.
