Lawmakers press for changes to ECB price target

Members of the European Parliament have proposed a series of changes to the European Central Bank's inflation target.

The proposals are in a report, which assesses the first ten years of economic and monetary union. The report opines that the central bank should move towards a full inflation target regime "where a shift to a range of targets might be more meaningful than a point target inflation rate."

The central bank now has an informal inflation target of below but close to 2%.
