ING gets Dutch lifeline

ING, the biggest financial services firm in the Netherlands, has become the latest major financial institution to receive a capital injection from the government.

The banking and insurance giant is the first Dutch financial institution to draw on a government capital facility programme established on 10 October. It will receive a government capital injection worth $13.4 billion.

In return, the Dutch government will receive non-voting preferred shares and appoint two representatives to the board
